This is an update that's been long overdue on the next novel in the Moon People saga. It's finally time to talk about The Dawn King, the last chapter I currently have planned for the series, bringing the stories of Adel, Netya, Caspian, Jarek, and many more to a close.

I started the Moon People saga several years ago as an attempt at something more serious than the erotic shorts and serials I'd been writing beforehand, and I never expected to have so much passion for the characters that I'd end up writing six whole books about them. Working on The Dawn King has been an intense and at times emotionally draining experience for me, but I want to give it my all and make sure the final instalment in the series is one of the best. At present the manuscript sits at just over 130,000 words, which is already more than Sun Huntress and Sisters of Syr, and almost twice the length of Daughter of the Night. By the time it's done this one is likely to rival The Alpha's Concubine and Daughter of the Moon in length. I always considered the three shorter books in the series to be side stories that were too big to squeeze into longer novels, exploring the characters of Adel, Kiren, and Vaya while also setting up some story elements for later on. The Dawn King is very much a return to the sprawling kind of narrative seen in the first two books, bringing to a close the arcs of all the characters who will live happily ever after -- and the ones who will not.

The story itself focuses primarily on Adel and Jarek, two young lovers who were torn apart by circumstance more than fifteen years ago. Both have built new lives for themselves among new people, but the memory of their long-lost romance still lingers. Despite the distance between them, their lives are about to collide again as the Moon and Sun People meet in an irrevocable clash that will test their loyalties and present both of them with a terrible choice.
We step into the lands of the Dawn King, the great ruler of the Sun People in the east who seeks to unite the disparate tribes in his lands and drag their developing neolithic culture into a feudal age of metal. Along with Adel and Jarek, Netya, Kiren, Caspian, Fern, and Kale all have their own parts to play, with the sun wolves being forced to confront their past lives and question whether it was right to ever leave so much behind them. A tale of love and separation, duty and selflessness, loss and reunion, The Dawn King brings our characters to dark and dire new places, throwing them into conflicts that will shape the future of both the sun and moon.

I'm reluctant to give away too many specifics about the plot at this point, as events move fast and develop quickly throughout the novel, but I might drop some more hints closer to release. Those who have been waiting patiently for a conclusion to Adel and Jarek's story will have it, for good or ill, and many of the loose threads set up during the last two novels will be resolved.

At present I'm unsure when The Dawn King is going to release, but my progress on the novel has been faster than I expected for such a hefty word count. My hope is to have the first draft finished by Xmas, with the bulk of the editing taking place early in the new year. Barring any drastic complications, I expect the novel to arrive easily within the first few months of 2019.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-30675334196342380012018-06-04T08:27:00.000-07:002018-06-04T08:31:30.608-07:00Sisters of Syr Release - Friday June 8th!

If you're wondering where book three in the series went, don't worry, this is purely just a naming change. I've recently retitled the previous novel, Sun Huntress, as book three in the series, making Sisters of Syr book four. I hope everyone enjoys this latest instalment in the series!
Here we go! Another novel release imminent and another lovely commission from Duong Covers to celebrate. Sisters of Syr has been complete in draft form for a while now, but editing is taking some time. Due to writing this one somewhat blind compared to previous entries in the series I'm having to pour many more hours into the post-production on Sisters of Syr, since there are more significant portions that demand tweaks and rewrites than usual. That being said, I expect the novel to be hitting retailer shelves within the next two or three months!

There are a few things that have changed about Sisters of Syr since I last talked about it back in December, one of which you might have already noticed from the cover art. While this was originally planned to be book three in the Moon People Saga, I mused last time about how Sun Huntress probably should've gotten that title given its significance in the story. The more time I spent on Sisters of Syr the more story threads from Sun Huntress started creeping in, to the point where I no longer felt it was appropriate to treat the previous novel as a side entry in the main saga.
So don't be alarmed when you see Sisters of Syr labelled as book four -- you didn't accidentally miss anything! By the time the new novel releases Sun Huntress will have gotten a little rebranding with the new subtitle The Moon People, Book Three.

The second major change to Sisters of Syr is the scope of the novel. When I finished writing Daughter of the Night I originally planned Sun Huntress, Sisters of Syr, and the (currently unwritten) sixth novel in the series to all be part of the same story. That eventually changed when I split Sun Huntress off into its own thing, and toward the end of Sisters of Syr I realised that it didn't make much sense to carry on writing for another 100k+ words when I'd essentially be starting on another brand new story for the final portion of the book.
So the novel that was once planned to be book three in the Moon People Saga is now books three, four, and five. This means Sisters of Syr will end up being shorter than The Alpha's Concubine and Daughter of the Moon, but the overall pacing of the series will flow much better as a result. It didn't make much sense to try and cram three books into one, so I broke them off into more self-contained instalments.

Sisters of Syr will be arriving soon, with information on book five coming hot on its heels! Planning and outlining is already underway, and I can't wait to share the details.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-22616403408154754732017-11-12T10:07:00.000-08:002017-11-12T10:08:19.718-08:00Sisters of Syr Announcement!

Another novel wrapped up, another on the way! As per usual with my books, the final page of Sun Huntress revealed the title of the next instalment in The Moon People saga -- Sisters of Syr -- and now it's time for me to get into some of the details!

After two divergences from the main storyline, we finally return to what is officially book three of the series (although in retrospect, Sun Huntress probably should've taken that title!). Netya, Adel, Caspian & co. all return to the forefront alongside our Sun Huntress protagonists Kiren and Vaya, with the story picking up at the exact moment Sun Huntress ended. I hope you're up to date with your reading, because major spoilers for the series up till this point lie ahead!

A little older, a little wiser, and with a firmly established pack behind her, Netya has stepped out of her mentor's shadow to take an apprentice of her own -- the impulsive young Kiren. Is she ready to rise to this new challenge? Or is Kiren simply too much of a huntress to ever embrace the skills of a seer? Perhaps more importantly, what does the future hold now that Netya's old rival Vaya -- a woman who has sworn to kill her -- is back among them?
Adel's coven has grown, their spectre looming large over the lands around them, and Alpha Orec struggles to keep the witches' clan of warrior guardians in line. A few small cruelties are inevitable choices a leader must make, but how far is Adel willing to go to preserve the fearsome status of her pack? As rivalries old and new come into focus, past friendships are broken and new ones rebuilt. All the while the seasons turn, and the Sun People continue their forays deeper and deeper into the Moon People's territory...

Sisters of Syr is currently 50,000 words deep, with much more still to come! This novel sees a culmination of many story threads that have been building up over the last few books, focusing primarily on the internal struggles of Adel's pack and the characters that have been established thus far. We will see what kind of a leader Adel has become, what kind of a woman Netya has grown into, and whether her old rivalry with Vaya can be confronted without any more bloodshed.
Unlike previous books that have focused on a single protagonist with occasional forays into the thoughts of others, Sisters of Syr will have multiple viewpoint characters throughout. My initial plan was to follow Netya and Kiren as the primary protagonists, but once I got started writing it became clear that many other characters also had important stories to tell this time around. Needless to say that Netya, Kiren, Adel, and Vaya will all be the heroes (or villains) in their own parts of the saga, with many other characters stepping in along the way. We may also be seeing a little more of the Sun People this time around, and it might just be time for Adel to confront the tragic loss she suffered at the end of Daughter of the Night.

There's a lot more to talk about with this novel, but I can't go into too much detail without getting spoilery! It's no understatement to say that this is one that I've been looking forward to for a while. Sisters of Syr is going to be arriving at some point in 2018, but given the volume of content I have planned it's hard for me to guess at exactly when it'll hit the online shelves. More updates to come closer to release!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-85286555574242992272017-08-12T08:21:00.000-07:002017-08-12T08:25:25.181-07:00Sun Huntress Release!

From the blurb:

Disobedience among the great packs of the shapeshifting Moon People is to be punished, and young Kiren has disappointed her ruthless mother for the last time.

Banished with one final chance to prove herself, she is sent north on a journey to seek out the clan of the great witch Adel, a woman of terrifying renown and an old rival to Kiren's mother. Perhaps, with the witches' tutelage, she can learn the prestigious craft of a seer and finally secure the respect of her clan. But while the great packs may be at peace, ghostly strangers wander the lands of the Moon People; men who leave behind neither step nor scent.
The world beyond Kiren's den is full of mysteries, and her journey north soon becomes a quest fraught with danger as new friendships are born, romance blossoms, and the cruel bite of tragedy threatens to bring an end to the young woman's adventure. Though she is set on the path to becoming a seer, Kiren's journey will teach her of the huntress that lies within her heart.

I'm very excited to hear the response to this one, as it's a little different from my usual fare when it comes to writing these books. There are a few surprises along the way, some shifts in tone, and a departure from some of the signature elements of previous novels in the series. I wanted to shake up expectations this time around, and I think a side novel to the main series like this provided the perfect opportunity to do so.

Originally conceived as a subplot for book three of The Moon People saga, Sun Huntress ended up taking on a life of its own and spinning off into a separate 110,000 word novel. Throwing a cast of new characters together with some of the old, Sun Huntress returns us to the world of the Moon People five years after the events of Daughter of the Moon, paving the way for book three and planting the seeds of the tale to come.
Here we go! In all its glory (and another lovely piece of work from Duong Covers) the cover art for my upcoming novel Sun Huntress.

Work on this title has been ticking along, although a tad slower than anticipated thanks to various things happening over the holiday season and some developmental editing on the side eating into my time. That and, as always, the book will probably wind up being longer than intended. It's been an interesting one to work on, playing out somewhat differently than my previous novels in the series. I'm certainly hoping that people enjoy the unexpected turns it takes!

No release date in sight yet, but I'll post further updates when the novel is closer to going live. The year is coming to a close, and before the holidays hit it's time to share some details on the latest in-progress volume of The Moon People saga. Those who read through Daughter of the Night will have already gotten a sneaky look at the title: Sun Huntress.

( Warning - Daughter of the Moon spoilers ahead! )

Taking place five years after the events of Daughter of the Moon, the story finds the great clans of the Moon People in a time of peace. Rumours regarding the mysterious witches who serve Den Mother Adel swirl through the packs. Their power is feared and respected, for everyone knows the tale of foolish Alpha Miral, who met his end when he tried to claim the witches' magic for his own.
But far away from Adel's valley, another female-dominated clan dwells in the swamps near the coast of the great water. Clan Mother Octavia, rival and once-betrayer of Adel's trust, finds herself burdened with a wilful daughter who refuses to find her place among the pack. Her name is Kiren, and she has inherited neither the dark hair nor the level head of her mother.
Tiring of her daughter's behaviour, Octavia sets Kiren a task: both a journey, and a punishment. She is to travel north, seek out Den Mother Adel's witches, and learn the craft of a seer by becoming one of them. But while the great packs may be at peace, ghosts lurk in the lands of the Moon People. The world beyond Kiren's homeland is full of mysteries, and she soon finds herself thrown into a quest fraught with danger, friendship, romance, and tragedy. Though she has been set on the path to becoming a seer, Kiren's journey will teach her of the huntress that lies within her heart.

Much like Daughter of the Night, Sun Huntress will be wear the suffix "A Book of the Moon People", focusing on a shorter side story rather than being a direct numbered sequel. That being said, the novel will also serve as something of a prequel to book three of The Moon People saga (title TBA), which will pick up right where Sun Huntress ends.

So, why another side story? Why a new main character? Well, that's a great question, since Sun Huntress is a novel that wasn't originally supposed to exist! My plan was to go straight from Daughter of the Night into book three, but during the initial planning phase I started to realise something pretty important about the story I was telling. The character of Kiren is intended to fill a key role in book three, and I always knew I was going to spend some time focusing on her backstory with Octavia's clan, detailing her journey north to find the witches, and just generally establishing her as a strong character before introducing her to the rest of the cast.
But that led me to a problem. I noticed that the amount of material I had outlined for Kiren was almost enough to be its own book, and that including it all in novel #3 would mean numerous departures from the main story to follow what Kiren was doing.

I am strongly of the belief that if a novel has to keep cutting between disparate storylines for an extended period of time, then those stories should probably just be their own books (everything involving Daenerys in the first few Game of Thrones volumes, I'm looking at you). So I decided to spin Kiren's introduction off into its own novel and flesh out what I had, making it a semi-optional prequel to book #3 rather than an awkwardly paced part of it.

While Sun Huntress will focus on a lot of new characters, there'll also be some cameos from the existing cast. Caspian, Khelt, Adel, and Netya will all poke their heads in at some point. We'll see a little more of Octavia, and there'll be some fun insights into how her female-dominated pack live their lives.
But perhaps most excitingly (at least for me!), Sun Huntress will see the return of book #1's vindictive antagonist, Vaya, and you can bet your butt she's going to be more than just a cameo. But how has she changed in the six or so years since we last saw her? Maybe, just maybe, she might be a little more than an antagonist this time around.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-73250856470739194002016-10-28T08:57:00.000-07:002016-10-28T08:57:20.101-07:00The Alpha's Concubine is now free!

Yep, the whole book! Now that the series is expanding I have decided to make the first instalment in The Moon People saga free. You can grab copies at the following links:

Smashwords
Amazon
Google Play

As per usual it may take slightly longer for the price drop to filter down through to some other retailers and store pages, but it should be happening soon.

The publication structure of The Alpha's Concubine was always a little awkward, since I had been used to serialising my novels at the time. As the book (and later the sequels) went on, however, I started to regret this decision, as it seemed a little confusing and out of place for a story like this. Since the entire novel is now free, I'm removing the serialised segments from stores so as not to clutter up my catalogue or cause unnecessary confusion. The only exception to this is Part One, since that edition currently holds the lion's share of the reviews for the series on most retailers. I figured I'd keep that one around for the time being until the complete novel (hopefully) gets some more reviews to let buyers know what to expect.

Aside from that, the next novel in The Moon People saga is underway! Expect more detailed news about it in the coming months.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-77576928328665514982016-10-16T09:16:00.000-07:002016-10-16T09:16:23.960-07:00Daughter of the Night Release!

Daughter of the great Alpha Ulric, young Adel is both blessed and cursed with a will every bit as strong as her father's. She does not understand why he must send their pack's warriors to fight and die against their greatest rival, Alpha Kotal, but as a youngster and a woman there is little she can do to intervene. As blood and sorrow paint the path of her clan's destiny, Adel's future seems a hopeless one. The young seer longs for power, and the strength to create a better future for herself, but all her dreams of greatness may be less than her heart truly desires, for a chance meeting with a boy from a foreign pack reveals to Adel a different path. Perhaps, somewhere within the headstrong young woman's soul, there lies a sliver of something softer, gentler, and tender enough to steer her away from an inevitable clash of wills with her father.

It's been a breath of fresh air writing this one, and somewhat of a return to my earlier days of writing more bitesize content. Not that Daughter of the Night was a short project, by any means, but it wasn't quite the heavy 150k+ word undertaking of the last two novels in the series. I'm quite happy with the turnaround time on this one, too, given that a pretty sizeable month-long disruption of my writing schedule happened in the middle of it (there's always at least one, it seems).

In the future I plan to focus on more shorter books like this alongside weightier mainline entries in the series. My focus remains on expanding The Moon People saga, with a second shorter side novel currently in the works that will serve as a lead-in to book #3. Those who read through Daughter of the Night may be able to get a sneak peek at the title at the end!

No set schedule for when the next book will be published (hard release dates have never worked out well for me in the past), but expect to hear an update with lots of juicy details before the end of the year. My current expectation is that it will arrive within the first quarter of 2017.
Those of you who picked up a copy of Daughter of the Moon recently may have noticed a sneaky little announcement of the next title in the Moon People saga tucked away at the end. Well, here's an official reveal, complete with cover, expected release date, and juicy details about what's to come!

Daughter of the Night is a novel I've been planning ever since it became clear that a certain character in The Alpha's Concubine was quickly becoming one of my favourites. Numerous hints as to her backstory have been dropped over the course of the prior two books, and sooner or later the details of these events were always bound to come to light.

Who is this mysterious character? Why, who else but Den Mother Adel! Although of course, Daughter of the Night takes place long before she was a den mother. The novel follows the early life of the aspiring young seer, charting her rise to greatness in the eyes of the werewolf clans, and the relationships that were formed and broken in the process.

Daughter of Alpha Ulric, leader of perhaps the most powerful pack among all the clans of the Moon People, young Adel is both blessed and cursed with a will every bit as strong as her father's. She does not understand why he must send their pack's warriors to fight and die against their greatest rival, Alpha Kotal, but as a youngster -- and a woman -- there is little she can do to intervene. As blood and sorrow paint the path of her clan's destiny, Adel's future often seems a hopeless one. The young seer longs for power, and the strength to create a better future for herself. But all her dreams of greatness may be less than her heart truly desires, for a chance meeting with a boy from a foreign pack reveals to Adel a different path. Perhaps, somewhere within the headstrong young woman's soul, there lies a sliver of something softer, gentler, and tender enough to steer her away from an inevitable clash of wills with her father.

Daughter of the Night, as a more minor prequel, will not be a numbered instalment in the Moon People saga, going instead by the subtitle "A Book of the Moon People". This may well be a format I revisit in the future to tell more smaller stories that support the central narrative, allowing a little more flexibility in my publishing schedule and letting me mix things up a bit. Daughter of the Night, while still being a full novel, is going to be notably shorter than the main instalments in the series, which comes hand in hand with releasing much sooner! Roughly half the novel is written and partially edited already, the cover is done (thanks to Julie of Duong Covers for this one!), and with luck the book should be available to purchase before the end of the summer.

No woman can lead in place of an alpha, and in the lands of the Moon People, the word of the pack leaders is law.

Free from their former clan, Netya and her new pack seek to make a home for themselves in the wilderness beyond the mountains, braving the cruel onset of winter as the turning of the seasons draws closer. But with no alpha and few men among their number, the fragile group are vulnerable to threats greater than ice and snow. Alpha Miral, leader of a powerful and uncompromising rival clan, has little tolerance for women playing at the roles of men within his territory, and he will not stand to be dishonoured by the presence of Netya and her pack-sisters.

Fighting for survival in an unfamiliar land, struggling to accept the wolf within her, and beset by premonitions of an uncertain destiny, Netya faces losing everything she has come to love if her clan cannot carve out a place for themselves among their savage kind. What must be sacrificed, and what must she become if she is to live as a daughter of the Moon People?
It's been a while, but the second instalment of The Moon People is finally wrapped up and done, paving the way for more entries into the series going forward. Ta-dah! Many thanks to the lovely Ravven for her continued work on the covers for this series. I hope everyone's as thrilled about it as I am!

With the cover done and the main writing on the novel finished, Daughter of the Moon is going to be arriving very soon now. I had hoped to get this book wrapped up several months ago, but in typical tradition for me my latest novel has wound up once again being my longest and most plagued with interruptions from the real world.

I don't have a release date set in stone yet, as the book still has to go through some editing and proofing before it's ready grace your e-reader of choice, but we're on the final stretch!

Those on my mailing list can expect an email to notify you immediately once the book is live, but expect an announcement here as well and via my twitter as per usual. Breaking with the way I've handled past releases, Daughter of the Moon will not be serialised, so the entire story will be available to purchase as a complete novel right from day one.
It's a brand new year, and probably high time I checked in with an update on all things authorly!

It's been a quiet past few months for me as I work on Daughter of the Moon, and despite my hopes of getting it released by the end of 2015 the delays of moving house and all the other hassles associated with it have unfortunately impeded my progress a little. You'll be happy to know that progress on the novel is still going well, though, and with a little luck it should be hitting online retailer shelves within the first couple of months of 2016. Hopefully. Unless I get carried away and my ending ends up running on for 50,000 words again. >.>

Fortunately the next release after this one should be arriving in a much snappier time frame, as the length is a lot more manageable than the recent door-stoppers I've been writing. Besides progress on Daughter of the Moon I've finally (I think) sorted out a system for a mailing list that I can operate without giving away my personal details to anyone who asks. This is one of those innate problems with mailing lists that's made a neurotic crazy person like me very hesitant to set one up in the past, despite a couple of attempts, but this time I should be able to get everything up and running so that people can get updates on my new releases without having to manually check my blog and twitter feed. Who knows, once I figure everything out there might even be some neat bonuses and giveaways for the people who sign up!

So as 2016 arrives I'll be chugging away as usual with my stuff. I'd try and spare a word or two about how I've been neglecting my blog posts and want to get back to putting up little musings here, but my writing time's been so occupied with, well, writing that committing to anything here might be a hollow promise. I do have one or two ideas that've been rattling around my head for a while, though. Maype they'll pop up at some point in the coming months in between writing announcements.

Until next time, though, happy 2016 to everyone! I hope the new year brings all sorts of lovely awesomeness and productive endeavours to you all. :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-53842729400861604322015-11-23T09:51:00.002-08:002015-11-23T09:51:53.909-08:00The Alpha's Concubine - Complete Edition Published!

Just in time for the Xmas season, the full novelised edition of The Alpha's Concubine is now available to buy all in one chunk and at a nice discount to boot! Pick up your copy now at Amazon, Smashwords, and Google Play, with additional retailers to follow! This edition contains all five parts of the original serial along with a sneak preview of the upcoming sequel Daughter of the Moon.

Taken from her people. Claimed by an alpha. Forced into a new life.
In a time before tools of metal and houses of wood, tooth and claw rule the wild places of the world.

The Moon People have been enemies to Netya's kind for as long as the stars can remember. But as the alpha and others vie for her heart, the powerful huntress Vaya seeks to purge Netya from her pack.
Before Netya can decide where she belongs, she must endure the trials of love, hatred, and heartbreak. The girl taken as a trophy must become a woman.

Besides the publication of this complete edition I've also been hard at work on the sequel these past few months, along with learning how to use Scrivener and wrangling some of my previous material into that program for some (hopefully) improved quality and slicker ebook presentation in the future, along with saving me a bit of hassle when it comes to compiling for different retailers.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like Daughter of the Moon is going to be hitting retailers before the end of the year as I'd initially hoped, but an early 2016 release is still looking promising!

Hello all! Today is the day of the Give Us Your Best Excerpt paranormal romance blog hop -- a fun little event where authors such as myself post some excerpts of our work to tantalise and engross fans of all things romancey and paranormal!

I've chosen a snippet of a scene from my latest serial novel The Alpha's Concubine, a historical shifter romance set in the wild and tribal antiquity of ancient Europe somewhere between the end of the neolithic period and the advent of the bronze age. The first part (which contains this excerpt) is available to download for free at Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, ibooks, and various other retailers!

"Has Fern made you welcome?" The deep voice of the alpha
reached her ears. He was seated across the room from her, half in
shadow, upon what Netya could only describe as a throne. It was
adorned with the full pelt of a bear, enormous and snarling, its jaws
hanging inches above the alpha's own head.

"Yes," she said, her voice sounding very quiet compared to
his. "She has treated me well."

The alpha rose to his feet and stepped into the light, his broad
frame looming even larger than the pelt of the bear behind him. He
was dressed as he had been the evening before, bare-chested with a
kilt of furs.

"Good. You are to be treated as one of our own while you are
here, for however long that may be. If any of my pack mistreat you,
they will be punished."

"I am thankful," Netya said, edging a little farther into
the room. "Am I not to be your prisoner, then?"

"You are here by my will, not your own. But whether that remains
true, we shall have to see."

Netya frowned at the cryptic answer, then forced herself to ask the
question that had been drumming in her mind for the past hour. "Then
why did you choose to bring me here?"

The alpha approached her, his eyes taking in her body without a hint
of reserve. He took her by the lower arm, running his free hand over
her pale skin from the inside of her elbow to the palm of her hand.
The touch of his rough fingers against the sensitive area made her
shiver, and as her heart jolted in her chest her lower body began to
tingle with warmth.

"Perhaps Fern has told you. I have no mate, and so I have no
heir. I will take you as my consort." His eyes met hers, and in
them she saw an unspoken question, a silent expectancy as he waited
to gauge her response.

Her breath shuddered as she inhaled deeply. "Why not one of your
own people?"

The alpha smiled at that. "None of my pack would dare to ask me
such a question."

"I'm sorry—"

"But you are not of my pack," he
continued. "And that is why, when I saw you at our mercy last
night, I chose to bring you with us."

"I don't think I am suited to be the
consort of a great leader," she said. "What about the den
mother? She is far more beautiful than I."

The alpha's expression hardened. "Do not
speak to me of Adel," he said firmly. "I have no need of
hearing her name voiced in here."

Netya almost wilted under his fierce gaze, but
she forced herself not to look away. Perhaps bravery was foolishness,
but the stirring pulse of her blood prevented her from giving in to
fear. She was walking the tightrope of her curiosity into the
unknown, where she had dared to venture with Layon the night before,
and secretly longed to explore more of. The allure of danger was too
tempting.

"You are young," the alpha said as he
reached over her shoulder to admire her braid. "How many times
have you lain with a man?"

"Never."

The alpha nodded. "You will come to my bed
tonight. No other male will be permitted to claim you."

Netya's skin warmed. The subtle scent of his
body reminded her of fur and salt water. "I do not know how to
be with a man," she said.

"Your body will know the pleasures of a
woman. You will learn to listen to it, and then you will know what to
do." He placed his hand at the nape of her neck and shoulder,
allowing his fingers to rest across her throat, then drew them slowly
downwards, caressing her skin until they slipped into the cleft
between her breasts. Another sensitive ripple ran through Netya's
body, and the tug in her lower belly seemed to urge her toward him.

"Do you feel it?" he said.

She nodded shakily.

"Then I was not wrong in choosing you.
What is your name?"

"Netya."

"Netya. Are you unwilling to be my
consort?"

She hesitated, unsure of what to say, or even
think. She was anxious. Perhaps even afraid. But unwilling? She had
no desire to flee or plead her fate. She wanted to understand the
things her body seemed to be telling her. The alpha's appearance and
scent and powerful voice awakened all the feelings she had begun to
notice in herself since becoming a woman, and for once she had the
opportunity to explore them.

"A man who takes an unwilling female to
his bed is no man at all," the alpha said when she did not
respond.

"I am not... unwilling, no," she
whispered, the words catching in her throat.

"Good." The alpha moved his hand back
up her neck, sliding his fingers through the hair at the base of her
braid.

It was strange for her to be so close to an
unfamiliar man, to have him touching her in this way. It was not like
being touched by anyone else. His hands slid over her body as if she
were an immaculately crafted ornament, seeking out the fine details
to make them more real through his touch. He tilted her head back and
pulled her in with an arm around her waist, bringing his lips to hers
for a kiss.

Netya expected the same soft warmth she
remembered from Layon's kiss, closing her eyes and opening her mouth
gently to savour the soft feeling of the alpha's mouth against her
own. Instead of giving her gentle pleasure, he took her breath away.

The alpha's firm grip tightened around her hips, the hand on the back
of her head steadying her as he kissed her hard and deep, his tongue
plunging into her mouth and curling around hers, bearing down with
passion and power. Netya's whole body tightened as she found herself
crushed against his broad chest, putting up her hands to steady
herself and finding only his muscular body to cling to. A low whimper
sounded in the back of her throat, and she reeled with a heady rush
of desire as the alpha's lips continued to work against hers, like a
wolf devouring his prey.

So! With the previous story all wrapped up, and work on the sequel well underway, I think it's high time I started sharing some of the details on what to expect from the novel I teased in the final part of The Alpha's Concubine.

My next story, Daughter of the Moon, picks up immediately where the previous book left off, continuing to follow Netya and her companions as they strike out to make a life for themselves beyond the mountains, absent from the safety of Khelt's pack and beset by challenges on all sides as they prepare for winter.

Daughter of the Moon is likely to be published in my usual format, with a serialised edition of five parts coming first, followed by a complete novel later on. Given that this is a sequel, however, I'm considering forgoing the serial version this time around depending on how things pan out. Right now I'm leaning toward serialising again, but that's always subject to change!

The book's format will be very similar to that of its prequel, with Netya remaining the central viewpoint character, but with short forays into the supporting cast from time to time. Caspian in particular is getting a little more page time than before, and a few new (and old) faces will have chapters dedicated to them as well. The themes of coming of age, finding a place in the world, romance, and discovery will remain prevalent once again, along with some slightly darker questions of morality, and more complex relationship challenges for the heroine and hero to face.

While the initial chapters of the book focus on Adel's new pack trying to survive by themselves in a hostile world, the central conflict that manifests over time is planned to be a lot more prominent than in the previous novel. Netya and her companions have strayed beyond the lands of the Sun People, deep into the territory of their fellow wolf packs, where rival alphas vie for power both physically and socially. One powerful alpha in particular is especially incensed by the small group of seers infringing on the outskirts of his territory, and he will stop at nothing to bring them into his fold, or have them suffer the consequences of refusal.

It will fall to Netya, Caspian, Adel, and the rest of their new pack to brave the strength of their rivals, and to wrestle with the complexities of their hearts as they come to understand their new place in the world.

Work on Daughter of the Moon is ticking along nicely, and the novel is currently planned to be released in late 2015!

It's done! The concluding part of The Alpha's Concubine is all wrapped up, longer than ever, and available to purchase on Amazon, Smashwords, and Google Play, with other retailers to follow as per usual!

Still reeling from the betrayal of one of their own, the Moon People struggle to piece the safety of their pack back together as tragedy after tragedy threatens to break them apart. Netya is lost, her fate unknown, and there are precious few who still have faith in her innocence.
Caspian believes, and he will stop at nothing to find the girl who has captured his heart. With Netya's life in the balance, respect and propriety between friends can no longer stand in the way of how he and the alpha both feel for her.
The ripples of Vaya's treachery are leading to a culmination of many things. The breaking point of a rivalry, the wills of two great leaders—and the answer to a question of love.

This one has been an absolute delight to pen. I certainly hope that everyone reading enjoys the story as much as I did putting it together over the past year or so. It's been the kind of novel I've been dying to write for years now, and I strongly feel that it's my best yet.

Stay tuned for more updates about what's next on the schedule for me! Or perhaps, if you give part five a read all the way through to the end, there might just be a little teaser waiting there~

It ended up running more than 10k words longer than intended, which in turn leads to more time required for editing, and more time for proofing. I'm super disappointed to have had a ~1 month gap between the finale and the previous part, but hopefully the extra content will be worth it!

If nothing else, this will be a good lesson to me about not underestimating my ability to ramble on for pages and pages when I've got self-imposed deadlines to hit.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-4025811414054754622015-04-26T09:50:00.001-07:002015-04-26T09:50:32.855-07:00The Alpha's Concubine - Part Four Published!

Time for the penultimate instalment! Part four is all done and available to purchase on Amazon, Smashwords, and Google Play, with other retailers to follow as usual.

Many mysteries await Netya as an apprentice to the seers. The demands of her mentor make her training a rigorous trial to endure, and with the alpha absent, she finds herself growing closer to Caspian as she seeks solace in the company of the understanding male.
Hearts are dangerous things to toy with, however, and as Netya's finally begins to settle on what it truly wants, so too do those of her admirers. Love may be calling her, but it cannot hope to blossom when vengeance and jealousy threaten to destroy everything she has ever cared for.

With the story almost complete, I've also decided to delay the final part just by a single week, pushing the release date back to May 16th, rather than the originally planned 9th of the month. The final segment is still on schedule to be finished up and ready to go in plenty of time, but in the interests of making sure I don't get interrupted by any unforeseen hiccups, I've decided to give myself a bit of extra breathing room to make sure nothing's rushed.

Stay tuned for the final instalment in mid May, to be followed by an announcement on my next upcoming project!

Amazon took a while longer than usual to get this one through the system, but part three of The Alpha's Concubine is now up and available to purchase on Amazon, Smashwords, and Google Play, with other retailers to follow as per usual!

Winter is upon the pack. The rift between the alpha and den mother runs deep, and Netya's voice is a small one between such powerful leaders. With no status of her own, there is little she can do but remain in her place at Khelt's side.
But as a new season dawns, and the great hunt draws near, there may be a chance for Netya to elevate herself in the eyes of the pack. A test of both strength and spirit awaits her, and it is one that Vaya has no intention of allowing the Sun girl to pass through unscathed.
The hunt may be a dangerous place for one of her kind, but the desires of Netya's own heart are equally challenging. Is love something that can be found as the alpha's consort? Or is there another to whom her heart is now being called?

Things are heating up a lot for Netya in this instalment of the series, and between you and me it's one of my favourites. Keep an eye out for part four on April 25th!

Taken from her people. Claimed by an alpha. Forced into a new life.
In a time before tools of metal and houses of wood, tooth and claw rule the wild places of the world.

The Moon People have been enemies to Netya's kind for as long as the stars can remember. They are monsters, demons, men and women who take the shapes of beasts. The murderers of her father.
An outsider taken as a prize by the pack, Netya must overcome suspicion, rivalry, and the division of her own heart, as she grows to realise that monsters wear many different faces.
Among the Moon People, she uncovers the potential of a life she never knew existed. The chance for a woman to become something more than a prize, or a mother, or a concubine. But as the alpha and others vie for her heart, the powerful huntress Vaya seeks to purge Netya from her pack.
Before Netya can decide where she belongs, she must endure the trials of love, hatred, and heartbreak. The girl taken as a trophy must become a woman.

With the majority of the novel already written, serial instalments will be coming along at a snappy pace, with one releasing every two weeks until the series is complete, and the standalone novel following some time after. Yet again I've run on waaay longer with this project than I originally intended, and the initial 100k word projection for the final length is now looking to end up closer to 160k. That's almost three times the length of the first novel I published two years ago.

With that said, I can already tell there's a whole lot more I want to do with The Alpha's Concubine beyond this initial story, to the point where notes and plans for the sequel are well under way.

Part Three arrives on April 11th!

It's almost here! My current romantic/historical werewolf romp is nearing completion, and within just a few days the first two parts of the serialised version will be available to purchase!

Massive thanks to the wonderfully talented Ravven for creating the cover art for this novel. I'm thrilled with how it turned out, and I'll certainly be looking to grab her for future instalments in the series (as and when those happen!).
Blurb pending last-minute tweaks!
The current release schedule for the serialised version of the novel is as follows:

March 28th - Parts 1&2

April 11th - Part 3

April 25th - Part 4

May 16th - Part 5

The release date for the complete novel is TBA, but I expect it to happen within a couple of months of the serialised version concluding!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7652758015692644777.post-58571207340357038142015-01-17T08:48:00.002-08:002015-01-17T08:48:39.424-08:00Monthly Update!Just checking in briefly this month to give a heads up on the new serial!
Writing progress has been excellent so far, and I already have the first two instalments (~55k words in total) finished, edited, and basically ready to go, with the third part half written as well. This means the finished word count is likely to wind up higher than I originally anticipated, but on the plus side the full novel is basically half done as this point.

While I did plan on releasing parts one and two in January, I've decided to hold off on that for the time being while I get a nice slick, professional cover commissioned and make even more headway with the remaining instalments. This means that, when I do begin publishing, each part of the serial will probably be released within a couple of weeks rather than a month plus after the last one.

I'm really enjoying this project so far, and as a writer I strongly feel that it's my best yet (although, that's how you feel about every novel you write!). Focusing on a setting and themes that I'm fiercely passionate about has been fantastic for me, and I'm looking forward to getting the finished story out there for people to enjoy.

In the interim of downtime between releases, I'm also hoping to finally get that pesky backlog finished up and publish complete editions of Wild Instincts and Broken Moon.
It's just hard to tear yourself away from writing new stuff when you're so into it!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06089984417810845286noreply@blogger.com0
